Polaris has a dedicated mainframe practice unit to focus on the following functional and technology areas:

Technology
 Application Maintenance and Support

Polaris’ packaged offering Tech-Port™ brings method to the whole process of IT Applications and Infrastructure Management.

Some of our unique practices are: Value Discovery Workshops (VDW), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Metrics Capture & Analysis, Audit and User Satisfaction Survey.

Our Maintenance and Support framework includes:

Corrective Maintenance: Under corrective maintenance, we fix problems to enable system to provide all the functionality. Polaris will complete the full recovery of all such applications.

Preventive Maintenance: We perform preventive maintenance to cover the events that could adversely impact system performance. The events could be changing business volumes, or any End of calendar/financial year or public holidays activities.
Adaptive Maintenance: This includes activities such as Introduction, recommendation for new module, installation or implementation of new version(s) of software.

Optimization Maintenance: Polaris monitors and reports on system performance on an ongoing basis and to identify performance-tuning requirements to enhance application response time and to reduce business process cycle.

 Legacy Web Enabling & Integration
  • Reduces Mainframe License fees
  • Reduces wide-area networking costs/dependencies
  • Provide access to customers and suppliers
  • Different approaches to Web-facing
  • Using Screen Scrapping tools
  • No change to application – web pages created on the fly
  • Using web-enabling tools like SCART
  • No change to application – generates presentation layer at development time
  • Presentation layer separation – Re-engineering
  • Presentation layer removed from the application and converted into a web interface
  • New communication layer developed for communication between the presentation and legacy business layer
  • Redevelopment of the application
  • Tool-based approach
  • Analyze the existing application
  • Convert existing screens to web pages
  • Convert application Business Logic from the existing language
  Migration & Conversions
  • Database Migration - VSAM to DB2, IMS to DB2, IDMS to DB2
  • Database remodeling
  • Code and JCL conversion/Upgrade
  • Data-migration program
  • Testing support
  • Data Migration
  • Larger pool of developer support for new versions
  • Language Conversions for VSCOBOL to COBOLII, Old version COBOL to Enterprise COBOL, MF COBOL / ACU COBOL, Assembler to COBOL
 Performance Tuning
  • Collaborative approach – Users, Developers and Performance Experts work together
  • Finalize performance expectations
  • Gather information through documentation and user interaction
  • Check the system values and parameters
  • Understand the application architecture and coding style
  • Conduct experiments and gather performance data, find bottlenecks
  • Work out a strategy to alter system values and parameters, suggest architectural alternatives, develop efficient coding standards
  • Collect performance data to bench-mark against the stated performance expectations
